We update our requirements regularly to meet strict global regulations and our own voluntary regulations
We update our requirements regularly to meet regulation and our own high bar for performance. All suppliers making products for Nike – including for Affiliates or licensees – must comply with:
• Restricted Substance List (RSL)
• Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL)
• Packaging Restricted Substance List (PRSL)
• Wastewater Guidelines
• Nike's Material Policies
• Green & Sustainable Chemistry Guidelines
• Test Request Form
The Restricted Substances List (RSL) sets out chemical standards for our materials that meet or exceed regulatory or legislative requirements from around the world and includes substances that we have voluntarily restricted or limited in our product. This RSL is now aligned to the AFIRM chemical limits list.
The Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) industry-wide tool assists brands, their supply chains and the broader industry to adopt an aligned approach to the control of hazardous substances in the manufacturing process for apparel and footwear. It bans the intentional use of priority chemicals during the manufacturing of textiles, synthetic leather and natural leather, and sets impurity limits for these substances within chemical formulations supplied to material vendors.
The Packaging Restricted Substance List (PRSL) gives substance details and restriction levels for Nike packaging as well as packaging design requirements to comply with global legislation.
Along with the ZDHC, we have created and adopted Wastewater Guidelines that set out a unified expectation on wastewater quality for the entire textile and footwear industry.
NIKE’S MATERIAL POLICIES
Nike’s Material Policies offer guidance on odor management materials, nanotechnology materials and animal skin guidelines.
GREEN & SUSTAINABLE CHEMISTRY GUIDELINES
The Green & Sustainable Chemistry Guidelines are a set of programs and tools to help reduce and eliminate hazardous chemicals, and drive sustainable innovation.
TEST REQUEST FORM
The Nike RSL Test Request Form (TRF) must accompany all samples sent to the lab to ensure that testing and reporting meet Nike standards and to obtain special prices we have negotiated on behalf of our suppliers. Data from labs that are not on the approved Laboratory List will not be accepted as proof of compliance.
