WE MUST IMAGINE, INVENT AND DESIGN THE FUTURE TOGETHER
Alignment and implementation are keys to success. Our industry uses a wide range of materials processed using many different chemicals across an extensive–and often shared–supply chain.
Work to develop industry-wide standards and tools is performed through industry associations, such as the Apparel and Footwear International RSL Management (AFIRM) Group, the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Foundation (ZDHC) and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). We collaborate with member brands, suppliers, and organizations to scale implementation across the supply chain.
Over the past 20 years, Nike has developed and provided multiple tools to improve our industry and beyond. We have shared our Restricted Substance List (RSL) to help create an industry-wide Manufacturing Restricted Substances list (MRSL), a water-based solvent formula to improve key footwear processes, and environmental footprint data–including chemistry–on a wide range of materials to give designers easy access to valuable information.
Through coalitions and associations, we promote a harmonized regulatory framework drawn from the best-available science on the hazards of chemicals founded on credible risk-based assessments of chemicals that protect workers, consumers and the environment.
