Track and Field Champion Allyson Felix Inspires Runners at We Run Singapore 2013

On Nov. 3, 20,000 runners took to their course at We Run Singapore (SG), choosing between alternate paths along the 10K to create an unforgettable running experience.

At the finish line, American running superstar Allyson Felix greeted the runners with an added challenge: go further by running another 1.5K. The few who chose to keep going earned the chance to meet Felix.

“Running is as much about the journey as it is about the finish. We Run Singapore takes the running journey to a different level and makes it completely personal to the runner,” said Felix.

Nike received over 12,000 suggestions via the online registration tool from runners to help design the interactive course, and turned the most popular suggestions into reality at various points along the race route.

“We have listened to our runners. That is why this year’s ‘Our Race. Our Rules’ theme is built around them and the personal choices that they make. It allows our runners to exercise their freedom and individualism to create a race that is uniquely theirs,” said Alvin Soo, Singapore Marketing Manager.

About the Interactive Course

At the first split point of We Run SG, runners could choose to “Follow the Pack” or “Go off the Beaten Path.” Most of the runners took the second option, plowing through grassy undulating paths. Those who followed the pack ran on the paved road. Both groups came together at the 4K mark to make another choice.

This opportunity allowed runners to “Rule the City” or “Own the Park.” “City” runners pounded the tarmac along the urban landscape accompanied by upbeat music. “Park” runners enjoyed the serenity of nature as they paced along the river, listening to calming music and drum rhythms.

The final choice had runners deciding between “Dance to the Finish” or “Rock your Run.” “Dance to the Finish” featured a route enlivened by dance music, an option that attracted seasoned Mambo Jambo fans. “Rock your Run” cranked up the energy with runners ending their 10K run with live music from Mad Trio.
