Striking Take On Traditional Red and White Stripes at Heart of Nike's Athletic Club De Bilbao Home Kit
June 30, 2015
Club colours in bold stripes create fresh look for 2015-16 season.
Nike Football has designed an eye-catching new Athletic Club de Bilbao home kit that retains the club’s unique identity and illustrious history. One of just three clubs never to have been relegated from the Spanish top flight, Athletic Club de Bilbao has won the league eight times and also boasts 24 Copa del Rey titles.
All of this has been achieved using only Basque players or players trained in the region’s academies.
For 2015-16, Nike Football has equipped the squad with advanced performance apparel innovation as it strives to build the club’s legend further.
Athletic Club de Bilbao’s traditional red and white stripes feature prominently on the home shirt. These have become wider and bolder — five stripes are built around a central block of red that travels from the collar down to the hem.
A single red panel runs across the red shoulder blades and sleeves to accentuate this part of the body and so create an even more powerful, commanding on-pitch look.
The shirt boasts a modern, tailored black polo neck collar with buttons concealed beneath the placket. There is a fine red trim around the edge of the collar, which can be turned up to reveal an all-red underside.
Each of the shirt’s flanks features a black stripe, and these continue in white along the sides of the otherwise black shorts.
On the back of the neck sits a small Ikurrina, the Basque flag. This design represents Athletic Club de Bilbao’s pride in their roots.
The new home socks are black with a red band at the top, and a tonal stripe of small red and white chevrons on the calf.
The new Athletic Club de Bilbao home kit will be available in stores and at nike.com starting July 2.
While this new kit represents a proud symbol of the club, it offers players the very latest in Nike performance innovation, fabric technology, moisture management and environmental sustainability.
NIKE DRI-FIT TECHNOLOGY
Nike Dri-FIT technology draws sweat away from the body to the exterior of the shirts and shorts where it quickly evaporates. This allows players to perform at their best by remaining cooler, drier and more comfortable.
The laser-cut ventilation holes and mesh panels in key areas of the kit are designed to improve performance by increasing air circulation to the players’ bodies and helping regulate their temperatures.
The jersey is crafted using a lightweight solid fabric on the sleeves and front combined with a full mesh back panel to increase airflow and facilitate enhanced movement.
Nike places sustainable innovation at the heart of its kits through the use of recycled polyester, delivering unrivalled performance and lower environmental impact.
Each piece of the kit – the shirt, shorts and socks – is constructed with recycled polyester, which is made from recycled plastic bottles that are melted down to produce fine yarn used to create the fabric. Each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles. Since 2010, Nike has diverted more than 2 billion plastic bottles from landfills into recycled polyester – enough to cover about 3,500 football pitches.
By using recycled polyester, Nike is also reducing the energy consumed in the manufacturing process by up to 30 percent compared to virgin polyester. For more information, visit nikebetterworld.com.
