Nike Thailand celebrates 25th anniversary

Bangkok, Thailand (17 May, 2005) – Today Nike Thailand celebrated its 25th anniversary by donating a NikeGo Community Sports Center in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) Province. The Center symbolizes Nike’s commitment to Thailand and demonstrates the company’s appreciation for the partnership of the last 25 years. Nike Thailand donated USD 50,000 to build the NikeGo sports center. The Center will be accessible to approximately 2,000 people in Nakhon Ratchasima Province and will offer a space for volleyball, soccer, basketball, sepak takrow, aerobic dance and other sports activities. The NikeGo sports center is a project of the Nike Village Development Project II, which is jointly funded by Nike and the Population and Community Development Association (PDA). “We are grateful for the successful partnership Nike has had with the people of Thailand over the last 25 years. We look forward to many more years of working together, “ said Greg Bui, General Manager for Nike Thailand. “It is our hope that this center will encourage physical activity in young people and be a source of motivation to discover the joy of movement and the fun of physical activity.” “Rural villagers have never had anything like this before. Nike began manufacturing in Thailand in 1980 with a relationship with one local contract factory and has expanded its contract manufacturing base to a total of 84 contract factories (14 footwear, 56 apparel and 14 equipment factories, manufacturing approximately USD 504 million worth of products in Fiscal Year 2004. In total approximately 75,000 people are employed in these contract factories.
