Nike Reveals College Football Playoff Uniforms to be Worn During Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl
December 26, 2014
As the four College Football Playoff teams prepare for Playoff Semifinals on January 1, Nike is unveiling official Nike Mach Speed uniform color match-ups for each game.
In the Sugar Bowl, the Alabama Crimson Tide will keep their official home uniform look while The Ohio State Buckeyes will wear their away uniforms – a white jersey with red accents reminiscent of the 1968 championship game, combined with gray pants and the team’s traditional gray helmet.
In the Rose Bowl Game, the Oregon Ducks will take the field wearing their home uniforms while the Florida State Seminoles will wear their away look – a white Nike Mach Speed jersey with garnet accents combined with gold pants.
All uniforms feature the fractal diamond-color Swoosh on the front of the jersey and pant, and each team will wear the new Nike Vapor Untouchable cleats and Nike Vapor Knit gloves in school colors.
It’s a special moment for college football when the best of the best finally come together to crown a true champion. In celebration of the first ever College Football Playoff, Nike honors the teams who will wear the Swoosh as they advance in the playoff.
For those who seek the ultimate prize of a championship diamond ring, all four Nike teams will wear Nike Mach Speed uniforms with unique design enhancements, including a fractal diamond-color Swoosh on the front of the uniform. Players will also wear new Nike Pro Combat Hypercool baselayer designs, a new Nike Vapor Knit glove, and brand new Nike Vapor Untouchable cleats. Each team will also receive additional “diamond-quest” embellished apparel and footwear.
UNIVERSITY OF OREGON
The University of Oregon Ducks will wear their “Fighting Ducks” green uniforms with yellow accents and anodized satin green helmets when playing at home. The away uniform will feature a white and wolf gray combination and white helmets with silver wings. The uniform features a fractal diamond-color Swoosh on the front of the jersey with the “Fighting Ducks” logo on the sleeve. The uniform pants also feature the words “Fighting Ducks” along the legs.
The Ducks new black and green Nike Pro Combat Hypercool baselayer features a fragmented diamond pattern with graphic angles representing the team’s 27 bowl appearances. The Oregon “O” is featured on the chest while the entire chest graphic is placed at a 27-degree tilt representing the team’s 27 bowl game appearances. The back of the garment features tonal sublimated mesh fabric for breathability along with the “Win the Day” mantra.
Each team will wear the latest Nike Vapor Jet Knit gloves, tested extensively at both the college and pro level, featuring a one-piece knit back that eliminates seams, reduces hot spots and reduces distraction. Oregon will wear black gloves with a sublimated knit back that reveals a green hue when flexed and stretched, much like the baselayer. The new knit construction is the next evolution in natural motion glove construction, allowing for full freedom of movement. An advanced full-length Magnigrip surface on the palm enhances the catching surface.
Oregon’s new diamond-color Nike Vapor Untouchable cleats will feature green accents. The cleat’s sustainable Flyknit upper provides the mobility of a low-cut cleat with the support of a mid-cut version – each shoe is knit using yarn from recycled plastic bottles – the equivalent of five recycled plastic bottles per pair. The cleats were tested extensively with the Ducks as well as several other college teams and professional players.
FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY
The Florida State Seminoles will wear uniforms previously unveiled earlier this year with the addition of the fractal diamond-color Swoosh on the front. The team will wear a new Nike Pro Combat Hypercool baselayer design incorporating a black Seminole-inspired pattern containing the Tribe’s symbols for Arrow, Man on Horse and Fire, with the helmet spears crossing like the crossed bars of the state flag. The black Nike Vapor Knit Gloves uncover a garnet underlay when stretched, and the diamond-color Nike Vapor Untouchable cleats are highlighted with garnet accents.
UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA
The University of Alabama Crimson Tide will wear their traditional home and away Mach Speed uniforms, embellished with crimson accents and the addition of a fractal diamond-color Swoosh. The new Nike Pro Combat Hypercool baselayer features a newly designed elephant skin pattern composed of Crimson Tide mantras, quotes and team inspirations. The same pattern is shown on the palm of the Nike Vapor Knit gloves. The teams’ new diamond-color Nike Vapor Untouchable cleats are also embellished with crimson accents.
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
The Ohio State University Buckeyes will wear their traditional Mach Speed uniform designs both home and away, with an addition of the fractal diamond-color Swoosh on the front. The new Nike Pro Combat Hypercool baselayer design pays homage to the legend of former head football coach Woody Hayes. The athletic department saved one of Hayes’ last “chalk board” sessions and enshrined it in Buckeye Football history. The baselayer pattern features a literal print of Woody Hayes' hand written notes for a book he was working on. The black Nike Vapor Knit Gloves feature a scarlet underlay when stretched, and the diamond-color Nike Vapor Untouchable cleats are highlighted with scarlet accents.
