In January 2019, Chitose Abe included a series of collaborative Nike jackets in sacai's Paris runway show. The down jacket, with wool melton and faux fur, melded a sport staple and the designer's technical acumen and subtle wit radiated through the design.
This fall, the outerwear pieces release as highlights of Nike and sacai's latest collaborative offering.
Volume, shape and texture are core to the unisex outerwear pieces, and the complementary MA-1-influenced hoodie. Though the jackets depart from the ubiquitous puffer coat, Abe's deconstruction and reconstruction of the staple garment grants a playful harmony between binary materials. With the two jackets in the collection, she delivers two different articulations on the idea.
The wool melton version comes in three color schemes, and its material contrast allows an understated formality. With faux fur, the second parka (which has four colorways) recalls the 2015 Nike x sacai Windrunner — an exuberant clash creating a sum greater than its parts.
