Nike Celebrates Li Na's Victory with “DARE TO AIM HIGHER THAN THE SKY” Campaign
January 25, 2014
In a historic moment for both Li Na and Chinese tennis, the world No. 4 player claimed her second Grand Slam title in Melbourne on Saturday. It's a defining and encouraging win for Li, who has continued to set new, higher goals for herself on the court.
Li has already defied the rules and stereotypes of tennis, becoming the first Asian woman to win a Grand Slam and the highest-ranked Chinese female player ever. Now, with a victory in the year’s first Grand Slam, she is inspiring a new generation of Chinese athletes with a new Nike campaign: “Dare to aim higher than the sky.”
“‘Dare to aim higher than the sky’ means daring to set higher expectations for myself,” Li said. “I believe where there is determination, there will be self-transcendence. Dare to make a breakthrough and dare to challenge all is my call for our young generation. Self-transcendence is success.”
Nike had a T-shirt printed with this message ready for Li Na to wear at post-match events. The message was also seen on Nike's social channels and will be on the front pages of newspapers throughout China, including in Li Na's hometown of WuHan.
Nike has worked with Li Na since 1997 and is proud to provide Li Na the most innovative apparel on the court. In Melbourne, Li wore the Nike Pure Short Sleeve Top, which featured her signature neckline for a nonrestrictive fit and cap sleeves to enable a wider range of motion. Li’s Nike Unlined Woven Skirt and Solid Ball Short delivered supportive on-court performance along with a stylish look.
Nike also provides functional, stylish and comfortable products for Li’s daily training and active lifestyle. NIKE Free TR 4, Nike PRO Seamless Hyperwarm Hoody and Nike Women’s Training Tight equipped Li to achieve her goals in training and helped her release her power on the court. Nike Tech Pack Jacket offers lightweight style and natural motion for Li Na in her daily life.
