Nike and Jamie King introduce new dance and workout collections

NEW YORK (20 January, 2005) – Today Nike will unveil its new women's fitness dance collection as well as the new “Nike Rockstar Workout” fitness class created in collaboration with celebrity director/choreographer, Jamie King. The Nike Rockstar Workout will be available at Crunch Fitness throughout the country beginning in February 2005.

Also launching in February, Nike’s dance inspired “Gym Rhythms” footwear and apparel collection is designed for the quick, high-energy moves of a dance workout. The pieces are comfortable, stylish and allow for optimal performance in the studio during routines like the Nike Rockstar Workout.

“Nike knows that sport goes beyond the traditional courts and playing fields. We’ve focused on the athleticism of dance for women’s fitness,” said Darcy Winslow, General Manager of Women’s Fitness. “To add even more energy to our first dance inspired apparel and footwear collection, Nike’s unique partnership with celebrity director/choreographer, Jamie King, will create a series of dance workouts beginning with The Nike Rockstar Workout.”

The hour long Nike Rockstar Workout is the first in a series of dance-based workouts that will be created this year for Nike by MTV and Emmy Award nominated celebrity director/choreographer, Jamie King. King has collaborated with some of the country’s top artists including Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Prince, Christina Aguilara, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, Janet Jackson, Pink, Gwen Stefani and Shakira.

“Dance is my passion so I’m thrilled that Nike is embracing dance as a fitness trend with its new collection and the Nike Rockstar Workout,” said Jamie King, acclaimed director/choreographer "It's exciting that Crunch members throughout the country will be taking this class."

To develop the workout, King consulted with Crunch Fitness, National Director of Group Fitness Donna Cyrus.
