Over his two-decade career, Derek Jeter exemplified and set the blueprint for how to give and earn respect on and off the field. What began as a moment to honor the player’s storied career has evolved into a mindset shared by Jordan Brand athletes across the world: RE2PECT.
Yesterday in Chicago, Jordan Brand began the evolution of RE2PECT by recognizing local leaders and highlighting its message — RE2PECT Above All — across the city.
“It’s an honor to be in my hometown being recognized alongside my father and other amazing leaders from our community,”says Jordan Brand family member and Chicago native Jabari Parker. “The initial RE2PECT campaign was inspiring, and I’m excited to see how that iconic moment has evolved into a mindset shared by me and the entire Jordan Brand family. The people being honored today truly represent what it means to put RE2PECT Above All, which is what I aspire to do on and off the court.”
To celebrate RE2PECT Above All, Jordan Brand, in partnership with Champs, celebrated seven Chicago heroes for their commitment to helping the community and inducted each one to the Champs Sports Wall of Champions.
Aleta Clark, Community Activist/Founder of ‘Hugs No Slugs’
Andrew Barber, Creator of Fake Shore Drive
Jabari Parker, 4x Illinois high school basketball Champion, high school All-American, NBA player, member of the Jordan Brand family
Justin Johnson, Founder of ‘Kicks For The City’
Kevin Coval, Director of Young Chicago Authors/Founder of Louder Than A Bomb
Monica Haslip, Founder of Little Black Pearl
Sonny Parker, Founder of the Sonny Parker Foundation, Chicago basketball legend
What began as a moment to honor Jeter has evolved into a mindset shared by all members of the Jordan Brand Family. As the RE2PECT ethos continues to evolve, it will inform new events and product, as well as highlight a new brand campaign. In each, the mentality of respect underscores the universal drive for greatness valued across the Jordan community.
