Hurley’s elite athletes will hit the water for the 2016 World Surf League World Championship Tour in Australia in the brand’s latest innovations: the Hurley Phantom Hyperweave boardshort and Hurley Phantom Compression apparel. “Our athletes are ushering in a new era for the sport of surfing,” says Ryan Hurley, Creative Director for Hurley. “It is our opportunity to enable them to reach their full potential.”
The new products are designed to function as a system. The Phantom Hyperweave boardshort, an evolution of the industry-defining Phantom Boardshort, boasts 50% less bulk than traditional trunks. Hurley’s first compression line, specifically designed for water, Phantom Compression advances warm-water performance apparel. When worn together, these designs offer more than a disruptive aesthetic.
“By creating a system of performance that can be personalized for any style, performance or condition, we are evolving individual performance benefits with each piece of the system,” notes Hurley.
Geared towards technical conditions, these boardshorts are constructed with a Hyperweave waistband comprised of a single woven layer. Free-floating magwires are placed throughout for an adaptive fit. Inspired by Nike Flyknit’s singular construction, Hyperweave brings woven patterning to the water for the first time. This revolutionary construction has replaced the traditional boardshort fly closure for 50% less bulk and supreme comfort. Featured details such as a scalloped hem and lightweight, stretch fabric allow for an enhanced range of motion and maximum protection.
Designed as the next evolution in warm-water performance, Hurley Phantom Compression combines the benefits of locked-in support with technical fabric made of 50-gauge knit that absorbs minimally, providing a fast feeling as you move through the water. The collection consists of quarter-length and three-quarter-length surf shorts, a short-sleeve surf shirt and long-sleeve surf shirt with performance patterning promoting ergonomic movement and a 100+UPF (Ultra-violet Protection Factor) finish.
When Phantom Hyperweave and Phantom Compression are worn together, they create a system of performance.
