As the 2016 USA Basketball Women’s National Team contends for its sixth straight gold medal, Nike pauses to reflect on where and how it all began 20 years ago.

In 1996 in Atlanta, 12 players, led by head coach Tara VanDerveer, established the blueprint for how to build a golden dynasty: Checking egos at the door, carrying one another, the team laid the foundation that led to 41 consecutive international victories, including those five straight gold medals.
