Professional surfer Carissa Moore introduces her new Nike+ Training Club studio workout.
The life of a surfer is full of many highs and lows and twists and turns.
And that’s just over the course of riding one wave.
Tackling the world’s biggest sets requires incredible balance and strength. Few know this better than Carissa Moore, the defending Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Champion.
Beginning in August, Moore will show off one way she prepares for Mother Nature’s oceanic uproars when her Beach Balance Workout launches on the Nike+ Training Club App. The 15-minute studio workout is designed to strengthen the core muscles that surfers depend on to dominate their airs and bottom turns.
“Core strength is essential in surfing,” Moore says. “All your balance comes from within your core.”
The workout comprises five drills, which include resistance band body saws, bridge leg chops and side plank crunches.
“The moves are hard,” Moore admits. “But by the end of it, you feel great and you walk away knowing that you put your best effort forward. As you continue to do the workouts, you’ll see the results.”
Moore’s Beach Balance Workout arrives on the N+TC App beginning Aug. 1. Users will also be able to shop Moore’s training look, which includes the Nike Studio Wrap Pack 2, on nike.com.
Carissa Moore’s list of achievements is as long as it is impressive. The 21-year-old Hawaii native began competing when she was just three years old. Winning happened soon after that. Her 11 National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) amateur national titles are the most by any surfer. In 2011, the then 18-year-old Moore became the youngest ASP World Champion. She followed that up two years later with her second world title. Moore's 2014 season is off to another strong start, as she has won two events and is currently ranked first in the ASP Women’s World Tour rankings.
Moore is a member of the Hurley surf team. To shop her favorite Hurley gear, which includes the Phantom Sandal, visit hurley.com.
