Feel Alive with Jessie J’s New Nike+ Training Club High Intensity Training Workout

Energy is everywhere in Jessie J’s life. Much of the British pop artist’s music is up-tempo and upbeat. So too is her personality. Jessie J lives to move, whether on the stage, in the streets or in the gym.
Starting in March, Jessie J’s lively spirit will hit the Nike+ Training Club App in the form of her Wild Alive High Intensity Workout. Designed by Nike Master Trainers as a proper introduction to High Intensity Training, the workout features five drills that look to build muscular endurance, particularly in the legs. Jessie J will lead the way as users shuffle, squat, jab and jump. Of the five drills, the Jessie Drop Squat has special significance. It’s inspired by what the performer does to warm up before going on stage.
“With the Nike Training Club App, I feel like I can do the workout and I can sweat and feel tired,” Jessie J says. “And what’s great is that my fans can join in too and get a taste of how I train. That’s cool.”
In between recording, training and performing, Jessie J took some time to chat about her art, energy and training.
As an artist, where do you get your inspiration?
"Inspiration for me comes from everywhere. I try to exaggerate moments of life that provoke emotions, so I get inspiration from my family, my fans, from music, from food, from a feeling in my tummy. Everything. Everything’s different, but everything to me is inspiration."
You’re known for your great energy and determination. Where does that come from?
"For me, it’s a matter of choice. When you wake up in the morning, you have a choice in life. You either procrastinate and you sit back and let your dreams go by, or you enjoy the life you’ve been given, use that as great energy and dedicate your time to what you want your life to be. I was brought up with that mindset and it’s never left me. So I’m very grateful for that; it's the reason I try and enjoy everything I do."
To perform at the level you do, it’s imperative to be in good shape. How do you stay fit?
"Dedication is the first word that springs to mind because you really do have to allocate time to working out. All you consist of in life is your body and I’m five-foot-nine of me. So I have to make sure that from my head to my toes, I’m doing the best I can to make my life long and healthy. I eat well, I try to get as much rest as I can, and I push myself on stage and in my cardio training."
How do you feel after a workout?
"It really makes me feel positive. It releases endorphins — and I never really used to believe in that until I started working out. You do really get this sluggish feeling before a workout where you’re like, ‘Oh, I don’t want to do it’ and you might feel a little low. But you do a workout and it gives you that pickup. It makes me feel alive."
