Denver NikeTown 5k Gets Kids Active, Raises Funds

Denver (21 February, 2006) – Already a huge success in Hawaii, Las Vegas and Atlanta, the Niketown 5K and NikeGo 1 Mile Kids Run/Walk comes to Denver, and surrounding communities, encouraging activity among the county’s youth and to raise funds for Denver-area schools that are 501 (c)(3) compliant.

Runners and walkers take off on the inaugural run/walk event on Sunday, May 7th at the Denver Pavilions. 100% of the entry fee will be donated to a school PE, play and athletic program of each entrant’s choice. This provides students and their families the opportunity to raise funds for physical education and playground equipment for their schools. $75,000 is expected to be raised with 5,000 runners.

Begun in Honolulu in 2000, the success of this community event has seen nearly $400,000 raised for O’ahu schools. The event has been so successful in Honolulu, Nike expanded its efforts with inaugural runs in Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Denver.

“The success of the Niketown 5K really validates Nike’s efforts to keep kids healthy by providing equipment and resources that keep them active,” says Keala Peters, Regional Marketing Manager for Nike Inc. “We look forward to expanding the Niketown 5K to other cities.”

The top three finishers in the male and female divisions of the Niketown 5K will receive Niketown gift certificates and the top three finishers in each age division will receive prizes.

The NikeGo 1-Mile Run/Walk option for kids and participating parents will take kids on a healthy trip around the park. All young finishers will receive a “Give 100%” Finishers Medal and a Nike gift bag of gear to help keep them active.

The entry fee is $15, plus an additional $5 for a Niketown 5K t-shirt. Entry forms are available at Niketown in the Denver Pavilions. Online entries and more information are available at www.niketown5k.com.
