Converse Avant Poste Celebrates The Best New Artists In Paris

Today, Converse Inc. announces Converse Avant Poste – a long-term creative initiative that celebrates emerging talent and acts as a breeding ground for the Paris-based creative community. Staged at Café Charbon, a local institution that has been attracting nocturnal Parisians for more than a century, Converse Avant Poste will feature bi-weekly music performances and quarterly art shows, all geared to support and showcase up-and-coming talent.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to the artistic community, we’re excited to find a new home at Café Charbon and bring this collaborative initiative to Paris,” said Geoff Cottrill, Converse Chief Marketing Officer. “The city is renowned for producing a wealth of creative visionaries. We’re thrilled to be able to provide a platform for the next generation to elevate their creativity and passion in a new way.”

Built in 1900, Café Charbon dates from the Second Empire of Napoleon III and has long been associated with creative culture. Its bustling location on rue Oberkampf in an artisan quarter of the city has seen it attract local musicians and progressive thinkers throughout its rich history. The partnership with Converse will see a new mezzanine level being built into the corner of the café, providing the perfect stage to showcase the vibrant emerging arts scene, combining the best new musicians, painters, illustrators and performers in a unique and authentic setting.

Converse Avant Poste will open to the public at 11pm on Thursday, Sept. 12 with a live performance from Weekend Affair, an analog synth duo from Lille who merge cold-wave and post-punk nuances into their own breed of haunting electronic pop. They will be playing against the backdrop of a swirling, organic installation of new work by the visual artist Julien Colombier, whose encapsulating paintings evoke uninhabited ethereal worlds.

Converse’s commitment to music is also portrayed through its ongoing work with Converse Rubber Tracks studio, 100 Club in London, the Make Noise platform in Spain, and Red Light Radio in Amsterdam – an independent online radio station that broadcasts from the heart of the infamous Red Light District.
