A Collection Inspired by Architecture In Motion
Tights offer one of the largest blank canvases on the body, but layering artwork to a garment intended to move with the body presents distinct challenges. In the case of the newest Nike Tight of the Moment, designers used 3-D projection and worked through dozens of versions to perfect the look.
The NTM x N+TC Tour Shanghai strives to capture the city's spirit and evolving cultural shift towards a sport and fitness-driven lifestyle. The tight connects to the 2015 Nike+ Training Club Tour March 8 kickoff in Shanghai, where, thousands of women will come together for a full day of workout challenges and high-energy events focused on inspiring, promoting and cultivating female athletes of all levels.
N+TC Tour Expands
N+TC Tour originally launched in 2014 with its pioneering cities, Shanghai, Los Angeles and Stockholm laying the foundation for what is quickly becoming a global phenomenon. This year, the tour expands to an additional 10 international hubs, making a total of 13 stops around the world and engaging with Nike's growing fitness community.
Tight Design Details
The new, limited-edition NTM x N+TC Tour Shanghai finds beauty in contrasts. Day and night photographs of the city’s eclectic skyline are rendered in bold red and black, merged with flowing graphics. The shape and placement of the modern urban designs complement the contours of the legs and the natural movements of the body. Taking inspiration from the technical architecture of Shanghai's iconic skyline, these tights are as beautiful in the static form as they are in motion. Throughout the development process, the Nike design and graphics team worked closely together on extensive 3-D application testing to visualize the optimal placement for artwork to flatter the body in motion.
"The placement of graphics is critical when designing the Nike Tight of the Moment," says Jamie Lee, Design Director for Women’s Training. "Following our ethos of designing arond the body in motion, we strategically place prints and colors to highlight and flatter the female form."
The bold Shanghai visual design is paired with the performance-driven structure of the Nike Pro tight, made from form-fitting, ultra-soft Dri-FIT fabric that wicks moisture away from the skin and moves seamlessly with the body. The tights create a base layer that includes flat ergonomic seams, a lined gusset, and a comfortable waistband – all features that promote comfort and free movement whether the wearer is training or navigating everyday life.
"We know that color can play a key role in motivating and inspiring our athletes to move and push themselves beyond their limit," Lee says. "Red is an auspicious color in Chinese culture that symbolizes joy, celebration and good fortune. What better way to kick off the N+TC tour than with this dynamic hue!"
