The Converse Chuck Taylor MC18 Returns

October 07, 2019 - Converse's second iteration of its seasonal cold weather collection employs a series of utility footwear with technical materials needed to protect during the winter months, and style is certainly not sacrificed for utility.

The collection is highlighted by the Chuck Taylor MC18, introduced to consumers last year and inspired by the Extreme Cold Weather Boot (a military rubber boot once produced by Converse in the 1950s). The seasonal installment also sees the reintroduction of the Bosey silhouette into the Converse line-up, marked with a rugged toe guard from the 1940s and reinterpreted to provide added traction and protection today. Rounding out the offering is the Chuck Taylor All Star (CTAS) Lugged Winter women’s shoe, which features a lugged outsole, GORE-TEX inner bootie and soft fleece lining.

The Chuck Taylor MC18 and Bosey MC will be available globally from Converse.com November 7, while the Chuck 70 Bosey and CTAS Lugged Winter, along with other seasonal Converse styles, are available now on Converse.com.

Tom Sachs' Mars Yard Takes One Small Step Forward

October 03, 2019 - Experimentation in young athlete footwear has existed at Nike since the 1970s. At various times, the company's designers have worked to find solutions that allow children's feet to grow and be strong in the transition from crawling to walking.

A 1980 shoe made by Tinker Hatfield served two purposes: First, the project served to familiarize the architect-by-training with cobbling practices and second, it allowed him to consider the specific needs of a baby athlete.

That shoe, made of green suede with an orange Swoosh, is the point of departure for long-time Nike collaborator Tom Sachs. His investigation of children's footwear is manifested by crib- and toddler-sized versions of the Mars Yard and Mars Yard Overshoe.

"The Sachs studio is a professional athletic team. Our sport is making sculpture. Nike makes performance products for the needs of championship athletes worldwide, and Nike makes our uniforms," says Sachs. "Bottom line, my son, Guy Louis Armstrong Sachs, is on the sculpture team now. He's an important part of the team and he's got his French work smock, his 10 bullets onesie and, now, he has his Mars Yards."

The shoes have a flexible sole and a Velcro collar. This supports young athlete movement and, important for Sachs, makes them simple to put on. "The shoe is very, very flexible and that's what you ultimately want when developing a strong new member of the team — you don't want a lot of structure," he says.

Complete with custom box and the now customary color schemes, NikeCraft Mars Yard and Mars Yard Overshoes release October 9 in crib sizes (1C to 4C) and toddler sizes 5C to 10C.

The Air Force 1 More Than__ Let's You Tell Your Story

October 01, 2019 - A partnership with athlete empowerment brand Uninterrupted, the Air Force 1 More Than__ invites wearers to share their voice.

Below the "More Than"-emblazoned heel counter, the shoe features space for immediate customization. Two Sharpies, one blue and one black, are included to encourage athletes to share their stories. This creative license harnesses the power of individual communication to unite communities in shedding labels and preconceptions, and takes sneaker culture's most democratic silhouette and transforms it into a billboard for empowerment.

Additional details include the words "I Am Uninterrupted" on the rand, a double Swoosh and a reflective heel that provides a unique spark to the shoe at night.

The shoe releases October 10 in full-family sizing.

September 30, 2019 - Nike is introducing a new series of Mercurial boots designed for the needs of the fastest football players on earth. The series, Nike Mercurial Dream Speed, features unique design interpretations of speed to be unveiled one at a time during the next several seasons.

The first Nike Mercurial Dream Speed edition follows the theme of the DNA of speed. It outlines technical details found in a Mercurial schematic, such as perforation patterns, registration marks, crop lines, color codes, a scale ruler and other graphic elements that show how the boot is built. The bold blue colorway takes cues from blueprints.

With a metallic finish, subtle sparkling laces and a magnified faded Swoosh on the upper, the boot embodies movement even when it’s standing still. A 10A and 73P code stand for the colors white and barely volt, respectively, the two hues displayed across Nike’s logo.

On the lateral side of the heel, a 001 logo shines with an iridescent finish, signaling the first iteration of the series. The 44.7 km/h speed next to the strike zone represents a dream speed for any footballer.

The Nike Mercurial Dream Speed releases October 3 on nike.com and will be debuted on pitch exclusively by Sam Kerr, Kylian Mbappé and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Converse Launches Renew Tri Panel Denim Chuck 70

September 26, 2019 - Converse is expanding its Renew Denim collection, introduced in August 2019, to create the Chuck 70 from pre-loved jeans. This latest installment dubbed Renew Tri Panel Denim uses three distinct upcycled denim washes — dark blue, light blue and black — to produce a fresh take on the original 1970s shoe.

Here’s how it works:

  • UK-based sustainable fashion brand and vintage retailer Beyond Retro sorts more than a million pair of denim a month. The Converse Renew Tri Panel Denim selection is curated according to three distinct washes — dark blue, light blue and black — then the perfect pre-loved jeans are hand-selected to become part of the renewed collection.
  • The three denim washes are butterfly-cut, then individual Chuck upper panels are die-cut out of each wash. Effectively, each denim wash becomes one puzzle piece in constructing the iconic Chuck upper. The dark wash creates the medial panel, the light wash goes to the Chuck 70 tongue and the black denim makes up the lateral panel.
  • The result is a one-of-a-kind Converse Renew Denim Tri Panel Chuck 70 that’s ready for a new life.

The upcycled denim upper is lightweight and durable, while the shoe’s upper lining and laces are made from recycled polyester. The distinctive speckled rubber outsole provides added traction.

With premium materials, deliberate nuance and an extraordinary attention to detail, the shoe is at once familiar and new.

The Converse Renew Tri Panel Denim Chuck 70 releases on September 27 in China and October 3 in North America at converse.com.
