Nike Mercurial TN

The Nike Air Max Plus hit shelves in 1998 and launched into global popularity with its daring design and innovative manufacturing background. The Nike Mercurial also released in 1998 and quickly set the standard in elite football equipment. Both shoes attracted a cult-like following in Western European circles, including athletes who looked to blur the lines of style between the pitch and the streets.

“The first time I saw the TN, it was worn by my big brother and his friends in my neighborhood,” says star French international footballer Ousmane Dembélé. “For the Mercurial, it was on TV in a Nike ad. Like many, me and my friends called the TN, ‘La Requin.’”

After 20 years, and in celebration of this summer’s competition, the streetwear classic officially takes a cue from performance footwear with the new Mercurial TN.

The lead colorway is in white, mirroring one of the Mercurial colorways that footballers will wear on the pitch in Russia next month. Iridescent shanks with a color-shifting effect appear across each colorway, mimicking the sole plate of the Mercurial.

More stylistic elements round out the fusion of the two designs. Emulating the sleek nature of the football boot, the Mercurial TN removes the “fingers” associated with the traditional TN for a clean, minimalist look. The upper is coated with a TPU translucent skin. The iconic logos are oversized, composed of fused skin, that appear prominently on the heel.

The black and orange colorways of the Nike Mercurial TN will be available on May 17 on nike.com and at Footlocker UK and EU. The white colorway is available on May 31.

Air Jordan XI Cap and Gown

While Michael Jordan was creating special moments in the Air Jordan XI on the court, his fans were wearing it off the hardwood to celebrate occasions. With the original design inspiration and use of patent leather, the silhouette’s cultural adoption as an acceptable substitute for a formal shoe wasn’t a surprise. Like many Air Jordans, the XI has added chapters to its history authored by the community’s style and passion for the brand.

The new Cap and Gown colorway recognizes the Air Jordan XI’s unique place at graduation ceremonies and complements them with upgraded materials including a suede upper, metal Jumpman logo and laces inspired by graduation cords.

The Air Jordan XI Cap and Gown releases globally May 26 on jordan.com and at select retailers.

Nike Epic React Flyknit iD

Beginning May 3, the Nike Epic React Flyknit will be fully customizable via NIKEiD. There’s more: Five run clubs (selected because they each represent what it means to push the boundaries of running and creativity) from around the world also created unique iD builders for React. That means additional one-of-a-kind design features from each crew, including sock liners, heel loops, heel cups and color palettes, are available.

To show the possibilities, each crew designed a shoe that features details that represent their city and what gets them going.

Tokyo’s Athletics Far East run crew’s design palette honors the Tokyo subway map. Koreatown Run Club in Los Angeles created a palette primarily inspired by the Korean flag. Seoul’s Private Road Running Club’s design features the Corinthian helmet logo and gold accents to symbolize the crew’s marathon achievements and victories to come. One Crew from Shanghai used nature-inspired tones that nod to clouds, dawn and the medals they strive for, along with the Chinese symbol for “fly.” Amsterdam streetwear label Patta and London’s Track Mafia partnered up on a triple black version meant to channel the fearless nature of city culture.

The Nike iD essentials builder will go live May 3, while the Crew builders launch May 10 on nike.com.

New Colorways Of The 1 Reimagined Collection

Today, the second go-around of The 1 Reimagined collection releases in Light Blue, Luminous Green, Geode Teal, Cinder Orange and Violet Mist flooded colorways.

Chiyo Takahashi, Nike Senior Color Design Director and one of 14 women who worked on the collection, explains how and why designers landed on these five colors.

When it came to designing the color collection, our initial ideas were to create different color palettes for each archetype. But halfway through our process, we shifted our aim to bring the collection together with a simple but bold palette.

We were interested in colors that created moods on their own and had an exciting synergy when together. Limiting to five bold colors instead of 10 made the collection more symbiotic. They became the glue for the relationship that binds the collection.

We landed on Light Blue, which is calm and soothing; Luminous Green, which is optimistic and progressive; Geode Teal, which is grounded and bold; Cinder Orange, which is warm and spicy; and Violet Mist, which is light and ethereal.

Each of these colors is quite expressive and unique on their own, but we really loved how fresh and playful the shoes became when all the colors came together. In a way, this symbolized what this collection was about: individual designers coming together to contribute, but it’s the power of the collective that really makes it special.

The new colorways of the 1 Reimagined collection are available today on Nike Unlaced and the SNKRS app.

Converse Chuck 70 Heritage Court

Introduced in 2013, the Chuck 70 is built off the original 1970’s design for the Chuck Taylor All Star with a deliberate nuance and attention to detail. Since its debut, the Chuck 70 has become a choice silhouette for designer collaborations — featuring in projects with the likes of Rei Kawakubo, Missoni, Jonathan Anderson and Virgil Abloh.

This spring, the shoe is celebrated in its full sporting glory with the Converse Chuck 70 Heritage Court collection. Winged tongue stitching, 35mm rubber taping, 12oz canvas and a distinct “Chuck Taylor All Star” license plate deliver vintage vibes, which are augmented by a refreshed color palette and tricolor blocking on the mid-sole pinstripe.

The Converse Chuck 70 Heritage Court collection is available on converse.com and at select retailers.

The NikeCourt Fresh Pack

In bright color schemes inspired by the vibrant style of 90’s tennis, the NikeCourt Fresh pack includes the Air Zoom Vapor X (shown first), the Air Zoom Cage 3 (shown second) and Air Zoom Ultra React (shown third).

NikeCourt athletes, including Simona Halep who's currently ranked world number one, will wear these throughout the European clay season until competition in Paris at the end of May.

“On clay, it’s important that the sole of the shoe lets you slide but isn’t slippery,” says Simona, who wears the NikeCourt Vapor X. All three shoes feature a modified herringbone pattern on the outsole that provides excellent traction on clay surfaces, while Air Zoom units offer cushioning for longer rallies typically seen on those courts. And for fun, black speckles on the upper represent clay splatter.

The NikeCourt Air Zoom Ultra React, Air Zoom Cage 3 and Air Zoom Vapor X will be available in women's colorways (shown) and men's colorways April 3 on nike.com and at select retailers.

Nike Free x Metcon

For the first time, Nike Free’s flexibility and Nike Metcon’s durability collide in a new men’s training shoe, the Nike Free x Metcon.

The TPU-faced open mesh through the vamp is similar to chain mesh, so it’s light and breathable but also durable. The toe clip offers protection on the medial side during burpees, while the heel clip helps minimize drag during wall exercises such as handstand pushups. The triangle mid-foot rubber wrap and provides stability.

Laser-siped flex grooves in the forefoot maximize natural motion and forefoot flexibility for running and jumping, while minimal siping in the heel creates a stable platform for lifting.

The black core that pops out through the tri-stars at the bottom is a softer-density foam that provides cushion underfoot, while the outer shell is a firmer-density foam that doesn't compromise stability during lateral moves. Small laser dots on the outsole provide grip.

The Nike Free x Metcon training shoe will be available in men’s sizes on April 1 globally.

Converse Birth of Michael Jordan Pro Leather

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s NCAA title, and in recognition of the University of North Carolina’s 2017 championship, Tinker Hatfield and Dan Sunwoo have created a limited, friends and family edition of the Converse Pro Leather.

The shoe, which was worn by Jordan in the ’82 tournament, features a Jumpman rather than the customary Star Chevron. “MJ was wearing the Converse Pro Leather in the 1982 Championship. He is often quoted as saying he felt he became Michael Jordan in that moment,” explains Hatfield. “To signify the birth of MJ, I had the Converse logo fade out and the Jumpman appear.”

The left heel pays homage to the Tar Heels’ 1982 uniform short, while the right references the 2017 championship team’s version of the now traditional UNC argyle pattern.

The Converse Birth of Michael Jordan Pro Leather will be presented to the current UNC team, as well as friends and family of the program and Jordan Brand.

Air Jordan III Seoul

Created by Tinker Hatfield and Dan Sunwoo as a special project in Nike’s Innovation Kitchen, the Air Jordan III Seoul commemorates the 30-year anniversary of the city’s hosting of summer games and the moment Michael Jordan won the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest.

“I grew up a sneakerhead in Seoul and I wanted to create a shoe that pays homage to the creative energy of the city. Now is the perfect time, building on the momentum of the winter games and the love Korean consumers have for Jordan Brand,” says Sunwoo.

The Taegukgi (Korean flag) inspires the shoe’s overall color scheme, with the “taeguk” symbol expressed through the lining and collar’s blue and red and the white upper representing peace and purity (as it does on the flag). 서울 (Seoul) is featured on the left inner tongue, while the 1988 summer games motto 화합과 전진 (Harmony and Progress) is featured on the right inner tongue. The heel reads “Nike Air” in a clear nod to the original Air Jordan III.

The AJIII Seoul will go on sale March 10 on nike.com.kr and at the Jordan Hongdae store.

Nike LA Cortez

No single connection between a shoe and a city is as strong as Los Angeles’ embrace of the Nike Cortez, originally released in 1972. That bond continues with the Nike LA Cortez, the latest Cortez collaboration between Nike and Nike athlete Maria Sharapova.

Combining her favorite sneaker with her favorite city — and the place she calls home — Sharapova, who has always had a strong eye for design and fashion, says she wanted to create a shoe that captured "LA’s high style." The color palette was inspired by LA’s laid-back vibes and the earthy hues of a West Coast sunrise. Playing off of Sharapova’s childhood interest in calligraphy, the shoe utilizes refined design lines for an off-court elegance. Thoughtful attention to craft and detail brings dimensional layering with premium suedes, leathers and soft gold accents.

"I love how it’s minimal and understated in certain ways, yet there’s so much attention to detail with the finishes, materials and even color," says Sharapova. "I was inspired by my morning walks along the coast on my way to practice, and I think we captured that peaceful essence in this shoe."

The Nike LA Cortez will launch March 1 at Nordstrom x Nike Sneaker Boutiques and on nordstrom.com, and March 2 on the SNKRS app, nike.com and at Nike The Grove and Nike Santa Monica.

Women's Nike SB Bruin Hi x Lacey Baker

Black leather and a white Swoosh give this Women's Nike SB Bruin a clean, classic look. Designed by Lacey Baker, a pro skater and member of the LGBTQ community, the contrasting eye design on the heels represents visibility, which Baker views as an important value for people who aren’t normally seen in mainstream media.
