November 21, 2019 - South Central LA artist Lauren Halsey knows what it means to create with authenticity. Halsey is hailed in her community for combining vibrant elements of found, fabricated and handmade objects from around the city to build densely textured installations and monuments. Her sculptures are inscribed with sentiments from the LA community, aimed at authentically and poetically rewriting the narrative on both a local and global stage.
Halsey and her artwork are also inspiration for the latest Los Angeles–specific Air Force 1, the AF-1 ALL FOR 1 – Los Angeles. Employing Halsey’s signature style, which is deeply rooted in the South Central neighborhood she grew up in, she funkatizes the insole with a kaleidoscope of visuals, adorned in red and green accents, interchangeable straps and inscribed with words of love.
The shoe remixes the Triple Black High into an ode to Los Angeles, celebrating the ones who cultivate community through creativity. Inspired by colors, familiar typographic design and iconic posters plastered around the city, Halsey’s collection is a visual and tangible tale of South Central LA. The shoe’s tongue tag is woven in with block text true to posters seen across the city for decades, its sockliner has a collage of South LA storefronts and it features dubrae with hand-lettered screen printing in font similar to Halsey’s Hieroglyph Crenshaw Project — a public installation of hieroglyphic carvings that allows communities in South Central LA to author their own stories.
“We all should move, create and act with the conceit of love in our hearts,” says Halsey. “Love means family. It means my friends. It means my girlfriend. When I work and when I build I think about who I can involve so that the projects are centered around love from beginning to end.”

November 16, 2020 - Jordan Brand opens the new year with its Spring 2021 Retro Footwear Collection. The assortment introduces three new women’s exclusives (including the first women’s iteration of the Air Jordan IX) and fresh iterations of the Air Jordan I, IV and V, amongst others.
Women’s Air Jordan IX
This exclusive model marks the first time Jordan Brand has introduced the Air Jordan IX to its women’s line. The Air Jordan IX, which was originally released during MJ’s first retirement from basketball, tells an international story that uses the shoes’ outsoles as its canvas. Through distinct global graphics and words in different languages, the shoe illustrates MJ’s impact and influence around the world. That sentiment lives on today, evidenced in this women’s exclusive model which features the phrase “Change the World” on the heel loop. The shoe also employs unique color schemes on both shoes using vegetable-tanned materials and natural plant-based dyes.
Women’s Air Jordan I HI OG
This women’s release offers a twist on the Air Jordan I Gold Toe, switching out the patent gold from that model for “crinkle” silver — inspired by space innovation and the future of flight. The shoe’s color blocking balances genuine black leather overlays on the toe, tongue and collar, a white quarter panel and midsole, and crinkle silver details on the ankle, heel and toe box. November 12, 2020 - Every year, one half of the biannual Nike N7 collection runs in tandem with Native American Heritage Month, which highlights the stories of Indigenous communities in shaping modern-day North America. Kyrie Irving’s own story, one of indigenous rediscovery, inspires the color pattern of this year’s winter collection with a design drawn from the star quilt and medallion he received during his Standing Rock Sioux Tribe naming ceremony in 2018.
The footwear includes beautiful, brilliantly-colored radial patterns on the Air Max 1, SB Blazer Low GT and Irving’s Kyrie 6 (available now), which features a haptic graphic that references the gifts he received during his ceremony. The patterns also appear on new Nike N7 apparel — hoodies, long- and short-sleeve T-shirts and leggings. Core to the collection is a belief in reclamation of heritage, leading athletes like Irving on brave personal explorations to unearth their histories. In Irving’s case, the journey drives him to advocate for a better future for Standing Rock and Indigenous communities through activism and collaboration with N7.
“I’m extremely proud to be Lakota Sioux, and at the same time, I’m still in the process of diving deeper into discovering who I am and where I come from,” says the Brooklyn Nets point guard. “Everything that comes with my background is something I’ve always accepted, but I didn’t necessarily understand it until now. The immense pride I feel comes from this journey I’ve been on, this rediscovery I’ve made in my adult life.”

November 11, 2020 - Celebrating 25 years of the Air Jordan XI, Jordan Brand commemorates the storied silhouette with two releases that simultaneously pay respect to the Jumpman past and look to the future: the Air Jordan XI Jubilee and Air Jordan XI Adapt.
Air Jordan XI Jubilee
Inspired by original sketches of the Air Jordan XI, the 25th anniversary interpretation of the model incorporates a metallic silver Jumpman logo and “JORDAN” on the eyelets. The heel has an embroidered silver “23” with a printed “25” on the insoles to celebrate 25 years of greatness. On the tongue is a special stitched “JUMPMAN” and “JORDAN” tag.
The Jumpman himself debuted the Air Jordan XI in 1995 after returning from his first retirement; the Air Jordan XI Jubilee celebrates the birth of a cultural icon and one of the most beloved sneakers in basketball history. The moment is punctuated by silver accents and detailing (the metal is the symbol of a Jubilee anniversary), which shine across an all-black mesh and genuine patent leather upper.
Air Jordan XI Adapt
Twenty-five years after original sketches of Tinker Hatfield’s Air Jordan XI design illuminated his intent to make a laceless shoe, Jordan Brand incorporates Nike Adapt power lacing technology into one of its most iconic models while remaining complementary to the original silhouette.

November 11, 2020 - If there is a connective thread in Cactus Plant Flea Market's ongoing footwear collaborations, it is in finding ways to celebrate a human, optimistic viewpoint. Air and sunshine remain themes, with variations of CPFM's unique DIY styling articulating the vibe each time. With the Nike Dunk, CPFM toys with literal interplay among air, sunshine and shoe through a dynamic light refraction created with Swarovski® crystals.

November 10, 2020 - In 1976, the final American Basketball Association (ABA) All-Star Game, which coincided with the league’s historic merger with the NBA, was the site of an important first: the inaugural Slam Dunk contest, where Julius “Dr. J” Erving wowed the Denver crowd with his iconic foul-line dunk, instituting a new creative harmony between the game’s art and athleticism. Leading into the 45th anniversary of the merger, Converse releases an ABA-inspired capsule for select basketball models — the All Star BB Evo, the G4 and the lifestyle-driven Chuck 70 — that applies the same patriotic color treatments as the league’s basketball.
All three silhouettes feature an enamel red, white and rush blue color scheme. The All Star BB Evo continues the model’s stark split-shoe design, adding a dash of gold to the signature Converse Star Chevron logo, while the G4 includes subtle asymmetric red and blue detailing between the shoe’s medial and lateral sides. The ABA logo appears on the tongue of both silhouettes (the Evo also shows the logo on the outsole).
The Chuck 70 rounds out the trio; its upper features an all-over print graphic with the logos of some nostalgically-storied franchises, such as the San Diego Conquistadors, the Pittsburgh Condors, the Oakland (wait for it…) Oaks and more.

November 08, 2020 - As Nike continues to celebrate 30 years of the Air Max 90, the first Nike sneaker to be widely recognized in Russia sees its own city-inspired iteration, the Nike Air Max 90 Moscow, which celebrates the rich history and modern architecture of Russia’s capital.
The Nike Air Max 90 Moscow employs a Smoke Gray color scheme, which is an homage to local construction and the city’s fall sky. This is combined with Infrared and Lazer Blue elements (a nod to the shoe’s original color blockings) to reflect the city's night lights. The Nike Air Max 90 Moscow upper, made of classic leather and suede, also features reflective touches to signify the futuristic aesthetic of the skyscrapers that shifted the city's skyline.
“Speed” and “City,” found in Cyrillic on the heel and the sockliner, refer to the dynamic rhythm of the megalopolis.
The shape of the Nike Air Max 90 Moscow is a 2020 recraft, featuring a sleeker, lower toe, and a pattern split of the original Swoosh shape on the medial side and a TPU underlay with the original logo shape.

November 05, 2020 - One year ago, Seoul-born hip-hop star G-DRAGON released his first collaborative Nike Air Force 1 “Para-noise.” The shoe, built on the multifaceted artist's favorite silhouette, matched G-DRAGON's belief in creative exchange of ideas to a design fabricated to shift with the wearer. In 2020, the Nike Air Force 1 “Para-noise” reverses its color scheme to white, but retains its self-expressive character.
G-DRAGON views self-actualization as a way through challenging times, a mindset he calls “Youtopia.” In his shoe, as the white upper gives way to his painting, each wearer creates an individual aesthetic based on their unique journey.
“Even though everything is uncertain these days, we shouldn’t stop expressing ourselves as the way we are, and creating our own world,” says G-DRAGON. “With these footsteps being connected, we will find our utopia spreading in front of our eyes. I dream of every one of you expressing yourselves freely in the Youtopia that you create for yourselves.”

October 30, 2020 - Cambridge-born, Boston-based Concepts has come a long way from its basement origins on Brattle Street. Founded in 1996, the store reached global consciousness in 2008 with the launch of its first Nike SB Dunk, the Lobster. The release introduced Concepts’ New England humor and knack for audacious packaging to the sneaker world. Tongue-in-cheek Dunk designs followed — eye rolls at Pig’s Flying, pokes at the notion of “Holy Grails” in sneakers and a trio of Ugly Sweaters. In 2020, Concepts’ eternal camaraderie hits full tilt with the TurDUNKen.
“We've definitely never taken ourselves too seriously. We’re well-versed in sport. We come from luxury,” says Concepts Creative Director Deon Point. “The thing with us that always gets overlooked is our sense of humor. We love to have fun.”
Each shoe in the Concepts Dunk lineage has allowed the shop’s crew to relay its humorous side. The inside jokes, made public, are revealed on just one canvas — the Dunk. This grants the shoe a special place in Concepts’ history, and from the pageantry of the 2008 release to today, bringing a Dunk into the world has been reason for Concepts to flex creativity.
“I don't know if the Lobster would've hit the same way if we didn't put that extra effort in,” says Point. “We were a tiny little shop in the middle of nowhere, regardless of our heritage, and though Concepts starting earlier than most stores, we were still kind of nestled away and it was like an afterthought amongst the heavy hitters.”
Today, there’s no doubting Concepts’ foothold — thanks in part to a new Boston flagship location on Newbury Street — and the TurDUNKen carries on its strong tradition of over-the-top collaborative themes.
The idea was formulated with an eye to the trifecta of food, football and friendship characterizing the holiday season. It has an origin story — the turducken, a Louisiana staple made nationally famous by football announcers — and it pulls through to serve as symbol of the community atmosphere driven by skate shops around the world. “We always have felt that a core element of skate shops is the family element,” says Point.
Conceptually, the product comes to life via a Nike Dri-FIT chicken foot sock, stuffed inside a duck-inspired Dunk, completed by turkey wrapping paper. Of course, it wouldn't be a Concepts Dunk without wild packaging too — the TurDUNKen comes in an oven-inspired box complete with holiday leftovers (including a family-dinner-themed turkey leg Nerf vortex football).
With down-like quarter material and a laser-cut quarter replicating feathers, the design of the Dunk High (or, as the tongue label reads, “Duck High”) draws from the coloring of the mighty Mallard. A custom toile print decorates the collar lining and sockliner, and this is reprised within an associated apparel collection: a fleece bomber jacket, T-shirt and beanie.
The Concepts x Nike SB Dunk High TurDUNKen launches November 14 at Concepts’ Boston and New York flagship stores, and at cncpts.com. Pairs of the Duck SB High will release November 20 at select skate retailers and November 21 on SNKRS.

October 30, 2020 - A clear-cut synergy exists between the Nike Phantom GT boot and the brand’s iconic 2002 advertisement, “Secret Tournament.” The style of football — filled with the era’s creative playmaking icons — set stage for the evolution of expressive, risk-taking footballers for whom the Phantom GT was designed.
Launched in March 2002, the campaign centered on a fictional 8-team, 3-a-side tournament, first goal wins. All matches took place in an enclosed “cage” on a ship. Its timing coincided with international play in South Korea and Japan, and with local 3-a-side tournaments staged around the world.
With the Phantom GT Scorpion, the generational link between “Secret Tournament” and boot materializes through a chrome upper and plate referencing the tournament’s ball, painted brush strokes mimicking the on-ship location and the yellow/black hazard stripes framing the goals. Additionally, a lateral scorpion graphic, featuring the phrases “Secret Tournament” and “Engineered For Skills,” updates the original scorpion logo.
