Shannon Says

I’m inspired by...

Joan Benoit Samuelson and Paula Radcliffe.

My first sport was...

Irish dancing. I danced for ten years and was ranked seventh in the nation.

I discovered running...

while in high school. Irish dancing helped develop my coordination, balance and speed.

If I wasn’t an athlete...

I could rely on my master’s degree with an emphasis on film and women’s studies.

I support...

Imagining More, a foundation I created with my husband Pablo Solares. It seeks to promote arts and athletics among young women in the USA and Mexico.

My off-track accomplishments include...

producing “Blue Soles,” a short documentary about the 2005 Duke University women’s cross-country team, co-founding the Bay Area Track Club and co-producing the Movie Making Marathon, Duke’s first 24-hour film festival.

My favorite meal is...

salmon with kale salad.

I want my legacy to be...

that I was a medal contender in the 2016 Rio Summer Games.
