Nike's global search for undiscovered football prospects will send 100 top players to the finals in August.
Argentina has added two top football prospects to the final pool for The Chance, Nike’s global football talent search. Twenty-eight semi-finalists gathered in the Buenos Aires suburbs on a chilly and windy winter day last Sunday for the country’s Chance finals.
As a local jury of former Boca coach Carlos Bianchi, former player Diego Latorre and former coach Julio Santella observed, this selective group of players participated in drills, training exercises and test matches. After an intense day of work, Jorge Vallejos and Tomás Arrachea were chosen to represent Argentina in the finals to be held in Barcelona next month.
At the announcement ceremony, Bianchi said how much he enjoyed being a part of the selection process and that he was extremely impressed by the young players who showed so much hunger and passion for the game. Santella explained that the jury looked for players with skills that could help them compete with the best young players from around the world.
The finalists will train under famed Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola at FC Barcelona’s renowned youth academy. It will be the end of a six-month journey for the professional scouts and Nike coaches who will have worked in 55 countries and across five continents to search for the 100 best young footballers to take part in final leg of The Chance journey. The ultimate opportunity awaits -- to earn a place on the elite 16-man squad that will travel the world, training with the best professional teams and playing against the most prestigious youth academies.
