Innovative footwear and apparel for the world's best as they compete for glory on the storied grass of SW19.
There is no tennis tournament that stirs players' and spectators' emotions like that held annually in SW19, London. Tradition and history combine to create a unique environment that consistently delivers legendary performances and moments.
Here is the innovative Nike Tennis footwear and apparel that Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Grigor Dimitrov, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka will be wearing as they compete for the championship in London.
World No.1 Rafael Nadal, enjoying incredible form after winning an historic ninth title on the clay of Roland Garros, will compete in London wearing the 2014 Premier Rafa Crew, redesigned Nike Premier Rafa Jacket, and the Nike Gladiator Premier 7-inch Shorts.
The 2014 Premier Rafa Crew in white with gray stitching utilizes Nike Dri-FIT fabric panels to keep players dry and comfortable. Strategically placed Nike Sphere fabric panels defeat moisture and a laser-perforated back panel enhances ventilation.
The Nike Premier Rafa Jacket showcases crisp tailoring and includes Dri-FIT four-way stretch fabric to keep it light and comfortable. The lengthened drop back hem enhances the jacket's coverage, and invisible zippered side pockets provide secure storage. Nadal’s Nike Gladiator Premier 7-inch Shorts are constructed from Dri-FIT stretch fabric to be as lightweight and fast as possible.
World No.4 Roger Federer arrives in SW19 excited to be back on grass and ready to perform wearing the Nike Premier RF Polo, Nike Premier RF Cover-Up, Nike Gladiator Premier 9-inch Shorts and the Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour.
"The goal for my footwear and apparel is always lightness, comfort and style. What I'm wearing has to look good, be as breathable as possible and let me be faster to the ball," said Roger Federer. "You can see in what I'm wearing for London that we've honored the tradition and elegance of this tournament, but that there is still real innovation in the fabrics and tailoring of my apparel that reflects my personal style and gives me the best chance of winning."
The Nike Premier RF Polo, in a supremely elegant white colorway, is an ideal performance option for warm-weather matches and features Dri-FIT fabric to pull perspiration to the surface of the shirt where it evaporates quickly to keep the player dry and comfortable. Laser-perforated back and underarm panels provide maximum ventilation, and flatlock seams eliminate irritation to give the player every advantage.
Federer's Nike Premier RF Cover-Up was inspired by his off-court style and is made from Dri-FIT sweater knit fabric, which delivers great breathability and comfort in a slim silhouette. Crafted open knit panels on the side and back of the jacket deliver improved ventilation, and an articulated sleeve design provides an ergonomic performance fit.
Federer's Nike Gladiator Premier 9-inch short uses Dri-FIT fabric for superb comfort and the 9-inch inseam provides excellent on-court coverage. His footwear of choice remains the Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour with a gold Swoosh, textile upper, flex grooves, supportive TPU foot frame and Dynamic Fit for a lightweight, cushioned and responsive high performance ride.
Coming into London enjoying a year of significant form, world No.13 Grigor Dimitrov will be wearing the Nike Advantage UV Crew made from Dri-FIT UV fabric that protects from harmful UV light and manages moisture to keep him dry. Design elements like the raglan sleeves and the flat-lock seams ensure a great range of motion and improved player comfort. His Nike Gladiator 2-in-1 shorts are crafted from Dri-FIT taffeta for soft touch and breathability. The 10" length and built-in liner shorts deliver improved support and coverage for match-winning performance.
Maria Sharapova returns to London celebrating a magnificent victory at Roland Garros and the 10-year anniversary of her maiden win on the legendary grass of SW19. She will wear a unique Nike Premier Maria Dress specially designed for superior ergonomics while projecting a luxurious silhouette.
The high level of craftsmanship in the dress is highlighted by detailed ribbing on the shoulder straps that provide support for the rigors of championship tennis, while a racerback design and laser-perforated Dri-FIT fabric deliver improved ventilation and a lighter overall weight to the dress. Innovative boding technologies that fuse seams together serve to reduce the weight of the dress and help Sharapova get to the ball quicker. An inner definition bra with molded cups delivers shaping and support, while perforations on the back, neck, straps and front of the dress also enhance ventilation and comfort.
Sharapova’s footwear choice is a white and gold NikeiD version of the iconic Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour.
Additionally, Eugenie Bouchard and Madison Keys will be wearing the Maria Team collection of Nike Tennis apparel that Sharapova personally helped to develop. The collection features the Nike Premier Maria Skirt made with a comfortable Dri-FIT taffeta fabric for breathability and a 12-inch length for great coverage. The dress will be paired with the Nike Premier Maria Tank where Dri-Fit fabric, a back keyhole design and a racerback silhouette combine to better manage moisture and enhance range-of-motion.
The current world No.1, Serena Williams returns to London looking for an incredible sixth title on the historic grass. Serena will wear an all-white unique Nike Novelty Knit Dress that features a front bodice crafted from sweat-wicking Dri-FIT jersey fabric that makes it super comfortable to wear, and flat rubber tape around the inner armhole and front neck seam to prevent unwanted movement. The skirt, back and straps of the dress utilize a jacquard Dri-FIT fabric made of 100 percent recycled polyester for lightweight sweat management and a soft feel.
"It's always a fun challenge when I work with Nike Tennis to create looks and clothing that let me express myself and my unique style while respecting the tournament," said Williams. "What I wear on-court is a key part of my advantage out there, so we focus on making my dress lightweight and allowing for full movement while not compromising on style."
World No.8 Victoria Azarenka will compete in London wearing the Nike Advantage Solid Tank, Nike Printed Pleated Woven Skirt combination and Nike Lunar Ballistec footwear. The Tank has the familiar racerback design with a silhouette that now follows the contour of the shoulder blades for a superbly ergonomic fit. It is made of Nike Dri-FIT jersey and mesh fabrics for optimal thermal management and the supportive built-in bra has moulded cups for fit, shaping and outstanding support. The 12-inch skirt beautifully combines fashion with function in a classic pleated design that is laser-perforated for breathable performance.
The Men's and Women's footwear and apparel highlighted above is available now from nike.com and also at select Nike Tennis retailers.
