Colombia's "King of Cups" will wear Nike kits for the first time as it heads into the 2013/14 season.
Nike Football and Colombia’s top club team Atlético Nacional announced on Jan. 31 that the club will wear Nike kits for the first time as it begins the 2013/14 season. The kits feature the latest design innovation and sustainable materials and are engineered to help players stay dry and focused on pitch as they defend their Primera A league title. Nike is the official provider of all Atlético training and match day product, including a lifestyle collection.
Taking inspiration from the club's rich heritage and culture, the home kit’s distinctive green and white stripes feature a bold "AN" badge set against a fortress insignia. The kits are constructed using Nike Dri-FIT technology to wick moisture and keep players comfortable during the match. The environmentally friendly kits feature recycled polyester derived from approximately 13 plastic bottles per kit.
The bright green away kit features the same recycled materials and innovation found in the home kit. The team will wear the home kit for the first time on February 2 during a match at the iconic Atanasio Girardot stadium.
Founded in 1947, Atlético Nacional boasts the biggest fan base in Colombia. The team is known as the “King of Cups” for the number of titles it has claimed, including 11 Primera A titles, the Superliga Postobón, and the Copa Postobón. In 1989, Atlético Nacional became the first Colombian team to win the Copa Libertadores de América, and it won the Copa Interamericana championship in 1990 and 1997. Atlético Nacional has also won the Copa Merconorte twice.
The new jersey will be available starting February 1 in Nike stores and key retailers.
