Special Nike SHA|DO Elite J and Nike Diamond Elite Pro II Fielding Gloves are engineered to exact athlete specifications.
Nike has released a limited baseball glove collection to honor the number 27 – worn by current baseball greats Mike Trout and Matt Kemp. The player editions of the Nike SHA|DO Elite J and the Nike Diamond Elite Pro II are engineered to the exact specifications of these athletes.
Matt Kemp’s player edition glove is a customized version of the Nike SHA|DO Elite J Post-Web glove, currently only sold in Japan but soon to be available in North America.
Inspired by a Japanese style of play and developed for the needs of Japanese baseball players, the glove is handcrafted using high-grade kip leather (lighter and more tightly grained than conventional leather), providing athletes with everything they need and nothing more. Currently Nike’s lightest baseball glove to date, the SHA|DO Elite J is designed to hold its shape and structure without compromise. It features increased flexibility as well as an anti-slip LPS “moist clutch” material inside the palm for ultimate glove control and comfort.
The name “SHA|DO” is derived from the Japanese words SHA, meaning “gratitude,” and DO, which means “way.” The two words adopt the Japanese spirit to always play with a sense of gratitude and pride.
Kemp’s player edition glove features blue welting and lacing as well as the custom embroidered phrase “Mighty Fine” along the thumb. It stands as a tribute to Kemp's late grandfather Vernon Mukes, who uttered the phrase whenever Kemp did something spectacular.
Mike Trout’s player edition Nike Diamond Elite Pro II 6-Finger glove features a traditional fit with a Japanese influence. The all-black glove, also made from premium kip leather, features a reverse welting construction for increased comfort. Trout’s glove features his signature embroidered in red on the thumb. The numbers “30/30” appear on the adjustable wrist strap in reference to his successful rookie season, during which he hit 30 home runs and stole 30 bases.
Trout’s glove also features an LPS “moist clutch” material inside the palm to help prevent shifting and slipping, allowing ultimate comfort and feel for the athlete.
Twenty-seven of each player edition glove will be sold starting July 27 on Nike.com. The inline version of the Nike SHA|DO Elite J Glove will be available later this year.
