January 17, 2013 Nike+ API developer portal opens View Gallery As part of Nike's first accelerator program, the developer portal provides tools and resources that enable developers to explore the Nike+ API. Following the announcement of the Nike+ Accelerator program, a new Nike+ API developer portal is now open. The portal provides tools and resources that enable developers to explore the Nike+ API using the developer’s own profile and activity data, including NikeFuel, running pace and distance, running routes, records, streaks and more. The Nike+ Accelerator is currently accepting applications until February 3, 2013, from companies aiming to use the Nike+ API to create products and services that will inspire athletes across a broad range of activity and health interests, including training, coaching, gaming, data visualization and quantified self. Nike is offering the opportunity to learn more about the program in person through scheduled "meet-ups" in San Francisco, New York, Boston and Portland beginning the week of Jan. 21. For meet-up details and to apply to the Nike+ Accelerator, visit www.nikeaccelerator.com. For questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Selected companies will be contacted before the end of February, and the program will begin in mid-March 2013. Nike has also added new mentors to the program, including Katia Beauchamp, co-founder of Birchbox; and Stephanie Tilenius, an Executive-in-Residence at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. They join Stefan Olander, Nike’s Vice President of Digital Sport; David Cohen, founder and CEO of TechStars; Naveen Selvadurai, co-founder of Foursquare; and quantified-self guru Tim Ferriss among many others. One example of an application powered by the Nike+ API is "Lose It!", a health and fitness application that encourages consumers to lead healthier lives through diet, nutrition and activity. Users can earn back calories into their daily diet via their NikeFuel score and their daily calorie budget. Learn more about "Lose It!" at the website.
